For the Locals: Summer Saturdays in July at the Tennessee Agriculture Museum

The Tennessee Agriculture Museum is offering free activities from 9 AM to 2 PM, Saturdays, July 9 through July 30.

Here are the scheduled activities:

July 9 – All About Goats & One Greedy Goose! - Big goats, little goats—they’re just waiting for you. Bring your friends to help feed and milk them. Guinea hens are at the log cabins, but be careful—there’s a greedy goose in the garden. This is your chance to visit with the soap maker, help Farmer Brown shell corn, purchase some goat milk soap or buy a goose quill pen to take home. Face painting and an observation beehive will also be part of the fun. Local honey available.

July 16 - Old MacDonald's Farm - The farm has a new look with pint-sized donkeys, a spotted mule and llamas. Visitors can groom and feed the animals from 9 AM to 2 PM. Small $3 fee for miniature donkey rides. Look for wooly sheep, chickens, spinning wheels and wash tubs at the log cabins. And remember to stop under the shade tree to help the blacksmith. The garden gate will be open and heirloom seeds available for purchase. Watch out for the gray goose.

July 23 - Hold Your Horses! - Whoa!! Activities everywhere! Enjoy free buggy and wagon rides, check out the stables or watch the Mounted Police train Tennessee Walking horses at 10 and 11:30. To put some giddy-up in your go, they’re rustling up Spotted Saddle horses and more activities at the log cabins. Hang on! From the barn to the museum, there are horses, wagon wheels, side saddles and a multitude of farm exhibits. Small fee for stick horse races and face painting.

July 30 - Flying High: Wild Wings & Creeping Things - Peek into the world of wild wings and creeping things—featuring butterflies, birds and bees plus the experts who study and protect them. There will be a huge butterfly hotel and nets for catching the winged beauties plus a busy observation bee hive and creepy-crawly stations everywhere. It’s a great chance to get close to a red-tailed hawk, owls and other birds of prey. Looking for more fun? Walk the Eagle Trail, check the mulberry trees and pick up some special summertime recipes.

HERE's another reason to eat broccoli! Check out the article describing a recent study that showed Sulforaphane, one of the primary phytochemicals in broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables that helps them prevent cancer, has been shown for the first time to selectively target and kill cancer cells while leaving normal cells healthy and unaffected. The study concentrated specifically on prostate and breast cancer.

Link Love: What's Free at the Drug Stores

I wish I had time to go through the adds and analyze the sales and coupons for all the drugstores. So I am very thankful that Moms Need to Know has produced a list of what is free this week. I am definitely going to pick up some $1.49 laundry detergent at CVS this week!

Just a tip, if you are going to purchase laundry detergent at Walgreens, do two checkouts. For the first, get the products that are free after register rewards (using your money to purchase). Then second, purchase your detergent with the register rewards that you just received plus your coupons. In other words, spend the same money twice!
