Link Love: What's Free at the Drug Stores

I wish I had time to go through the adds and analyze the sales and coupons for all the drugstores. So I am very thankful that Moms Need to Know has produced a list of what is free this week. I am definitely going to pick up some $1.49 laundry detergent at CVS this week!

Just a tip, if you are going to purchase laundry detergent at Walgreens, do two checkouts. For the first, get the products that are free after register rewards (using your money to purchase). Then second, purchase your detergent with the register rewards that you just received plus your coupons. In other words, spend the same money twice!

I Still Love You CVS!

It has been forever since I visited CVS. For a while, I was going at least every week to flip my ECBs (CVS money that prints at the end of your receipt and does expire if not used). If you have never used the CVS system, you are truly missing out. Basically you keep buying the products that produce ECBs with the previous ECBs earned, using very little of your own money. I was an avid shopper for about one year. At the end of the year, I had so many free products that I was giving half of them away and my cabinets were still full. So I stopped going.

Well, I am starting to run out of that very expensive free face cream and I have discovered that we use up a lot more shampoo then conditioner (meaning I now have a cabinet full of conditioner). I also want to start giving more products to charities. So I made a trip today at lunch. I started with no ECBs. I stopped by CVS yesterday afternoon to scan my card on their machine and got a few CVS coupons and a $5/$40 purchase coupon.

Here is what I bought:

Bayer Aspirin, $1
-$1/1 MF Q
Final Price: Free

3 Carefree, $1
-(3) $1/1 MF Qs

Cheap Deodorant at CVS Next Week

I have not been tempted by CVS in a while. Last year at this time, CVS was the place to be. They had some great CVS coupons then, but I have not seen anything in a while. However, there is one deal starting on Sunday 6/14 that could be worth a trip for some.

Dry Idea Roll On Deodorant BOGO at $4.49

-$2 off Dry Idea

Final Price: buy 2, use 2 Qs makes it .24¢ ea

7 Up Printable Coupon

Currently at CVS, if you purchase 3 of 7UP, Canada Dry, A&W or Sunkist 12pks, 12oz cans (3/$11), you will get $3 ECBs (Limit 1).

Go HERE to print your $1/1 "Cherry 7 Up Antioxidant or any flavor 7 Up." You can print it twice.

Thus, you can get three twelve packs for $6 after coupons and ECBs.

CVS is still my friend!

I have not been to CVS in a while. It seems like after the initial falling in love with CVS and getting just a ton of things for free or nearly free, my trips have slowed down to going when my ECBs are expiring or when there is some super fantastic deal. Perhaps it is because I have stockpiled enough that I no longer really need anything for quite some time, which is of course the whole point of stockpiling. Now I can pick and choose the perfect deals. It is still a great place to go when you have a shopping compulsion and don't want to actually spend your money. So I had 2.99 in ECBs expiring yesterday and needed to turn them over. When I got to CVS I scanned my card and got another $1 in ECB. So here is what I purchased:

2 Sure, regularly 2.99, on sale 2/$5
-2 $1/1 IP Qs
Final Price: 2/$3
ECBs earned: $2 (making them .50 each)

2 Colgate Sensitive Toothpastes, regularly 4.89, on sale 3.99
-2 IP Qs $1/1
Final Price: 2.99 each
ECBs earned: 7.98 (making them free plus $2 overage)

Softsoap Body Wash Apricot Scrub, regularly 5.29, on sale 4.99
-.75/1 MF Q
Final Price: 4.24
ECBs earned: 4.99 (making it free plus .75 overage)

Lady Spead Stick, regularly 3.49, on sale 1.75
-.75/1 MF Q
Final Price: $1.00

Suave Deodorant, regularly 2.39, on sale 1.20
-.50/1 MF Q
Final Price: .70

-I also had the $4/$20 beauty purchase CVS Q. It did not say what a beauty purchase was so I thought I would give it a shot. In my opinion, cleanliness and sweet smell rank high on the beauty scale. It rang up just fine.

-3.99 ECBs

Total before sales/coupons: 28.13
Coupons/Sales: 20.00
OOP: $8.13
Earned: $14.97 ECBs (profit of $2.85)

CVS Trip: $4.06 for $154.50

I had expiring ECBs and two $10 off of $50 CVS coupons so I made a trip to CVS after checking the Internet for the best deals. I made two transactions with shopping in between because I feel guilty doing it all at once - I don't want people to have to wait in line behind me. I lost a few ECBs so I will have to make up for that in future transactions. However, Easter is coming soon and CVS usually has great ECB deals over holidays.

I was going to attempt purchasing three Dry Ideas at the same time because it has been reported online that the limit is actually three. However, I saw a friend at the store who I mentioned it to and she tried two and it did not work. There was a problem with the price not ringing up correctly and the cashier had to fix it. He would not fix it twice. She ultimately returned the second one. I did notice on my receipt that it is showing another quantity to be purchased toward the deal. I think it may have worked if the cash register had rung the correct price to begin with.

Here is what I purchased:

Transaction 1:

Dry Idea, regularly 4.49, on sale 2.99
-IP Q $2/1

L'Oreal Revitalift Cream, regularly 19.99, on sale 16.00
-MF Q $2/1
-CVS CRT $3/1

L'Oreal Revitalift Face Wipes, 6.99
-MF Q $2/1

Colgate Max Fresh, regularly 3.29, on sale 2.99
-MF Q $1/1

24.7 Daily Scrub, 15.99

2 Revlon Lipstick, 7.99 BOGO
-CVS CRT $2/1
-2 MF Qs $1/1

Irish Spring Body Wash, 4.99

-CVS $10/$50

Total Before Coupons/Sales: $72.55
ECBs Used: $33.99
Total OOP: .78
ECBs Earned: $24.98 ($5 for L'Oreal, $4.99 for Irish Spring, $2.99 for Colgate, $10. for 24.7, and $2 for Dry Idea)

Transaction 2:

4 Progresso Soup, regularly 3.19, on sale 1.25
-IP Q $1/2 (I actually had two of these but only one rung up)

3 Bliss Milk Chocolate, regularly 4.99, on sale 3.99
-3 MF Qs $1/1

2 Pringles, regularly 1.99, on sale 1.47
-2 MF Qs $1/1 (from P&G Booklet mailed to me)

Cold Medicine CVS Coupon

Thanks to I Heart CVS for this coupon. It is $1 off of a $3 purchase of any cold or allergy medicine. Why is this so great? Because CVS frequently has sales or ECB deals that are related to cold medicine. This coupon can be used stacked with a manufacturer coupon. That along with ECBs earned will help to make it free. The coupon is good until 3/20.

Simple Trip to CVS 2-23-09

I had to be in the area of CVS at lunch so I decided to stop and get some super cheap cereal.

Here is what I got:

2 Post Trail Mix Crunch Cereal $4.79 BOGO
-$2/1 IP Q for Post Trail Mix Crunch (use 2 coupons)

Final Price: .39 each

1 Gillette Fusion Gamer Razor, on sale 7.99
-MF Q $4/1
Final Price: 3.99

Total: 5.47 (.69 tax)
ECBs Used: 4.49
OOP: .98
ECBs Gained: $4 from razor
I also got a $10 off of $50 coupon.

Just a note, on the refrigerated door in the drink section, there was a pad of manufacturer coupons for $1 off of any gallon of milk when you buy a package Nabisco cookies (9 oz. +). Pick up a few if you find it. If there is a BOGO sale on Nabisco cookies (at any store), plus if you have coupons for cookies, you can actually get a really good deal on milk as well with this coupon.

CVS Trip 2/14/09

I unfortunately had $22 in ECBs expiring on the 14th so I had to make a trip to roll my ECBs. This week there were not a lot of great or clear cut deals that make rolling ECBs easy. To make it a little harder, when I ran my card on the scanner, it spit out a $10/$50 coupon. It took me about an hour to come up with this in the store:

3 Johnson & Johnson Soaps, 1.19
-3 MF Qs $1/1
Final Pricew: .19 each

2 Mylanta, 6.49, one was on sale for 3.49
-1 MF Q $4/2
Final Price: $2.99 each

3 Bodyheat 3 pack, 3.99
-2 peelies $1/1
Final Price: $3.32 each

2 Lindt Truffles (only one pictured), 4.29
-2 MF Qs $1/1
Final Price: 3.29 each

Sudafed OM Nasal Spray, 7.99
-MF Q $2/1
-CVS CRT $2/1 Sudafed
-CVS $1/any sinus/allergy purchase
Final price: 2.99

ECBs that I got from the transaction: $18 ($6 for Mylanta, $3 for American Greetings, $9 for Bodyheat). I lost a few ECBs but it is better than losing all of them from expiring!

CVS Scenario 2-8-09

Deal Seeking Mom is hosting a Linky for scenarios so I thought I would add mine. The total, which I would use prior ECBs to pay with, is less than the ECBs earned making it a money maker. There is a hidden deal on Mylanta which I will try if they have the product (see I Heart CVS for details). Click to enlarge.

Remembering Why I Love CVS: $2.96 for $123

I hadn't planned on going to CVS. I hadn't even looked closely at the ad this week. My afternoon was devoted to getting tags on my car, which were already a month expired. To get the tags I have to have my admissions checked. My car was, of course, deep in piles left behind by my three young children. I decided to clean it up a bit before the admissions guy jumped in. Low and behold I found between the seats some ECBs that I thought I had dropped in the parking lot (very depressing at the time). A number of them were expired, but I had $34 in ECBs that expire tomorrow. I knew that I would not get a good chance to go with the kids around tomorrow so this afternoon was my last chance. Fortunately, I always carry my coupon binder in the car.

So after the tags and with no planning I stopped at CVS. My first move was to use my card at the little machine that spits out coupons when you scan your card. Another complication, I get a $10/$50 coupon and another for a free bottle of CVS mouth wash.

So here is how it went:

Goodnights, regularly 17.99, on sale 13.99
-MF Q $2/1
Final Price: 11.99

L'Oreal Hair Color, regularly 9.99, on sale 2.50

4 Theraflu Warming Liquids, 6.59
-4 Blinkie Qs $2/1
Final Price: 4.59 each
(Get 5 ECBs when you buy 2 - 10 total)

3 Johnson & Johnson Soaps, 1.19
-IP Q $2/2
-MF Q $1/1
Final Price: .19 each

Total before sales/coupons: $123.00
Sales: 21.09
-$10/$50 Coupon
-$55.96 ECBs (34 expiring and a few I had in my binder)
OOP: $2.96 (saved 98%)

Also gained 37.48 ECBs. I lost out on a few ECBs, but I expected it when I purchased the Pull Ups and being less than prepared. I am just excited that it went as well as it did and I found lost money!

Making Money at CVS 1/15/09

4
Children's Throat Cooler Ice Pops 6ct, 4.99
-2 buy one throat coolers, get one free

2

ECBs earned: $42.94 (Nasogel: 15.98, Children's Throat Cooler: 19.96, Crackers: 2.00, Similasan: 5.00) and a $10/$50 coupon. Thus, I made a profit of $8.54 (ECBs earned-ECBs Spent-OOP).

Great Trip to CVS 1/8/09

It's finally stopped raining in Nashville, so for lunch I made a quick trip to my favorite CVS. A new cashier was there so it didn't go as well as I would have liked, but I still managed to make a gain on my ECBs.

1 Febreze Candle, regularly 7.99, rang up 1.99
- MF Q $2/1 (cashier rang it up as 1.19)
Final Price: .80

5 Soy Joy 6 packs, 6.00
- 2 MF Qs $3/10 bars
Final Price: 4.80 per pack

1 Garnier Fructis Hair Spray, on sale 2.99
-1 MF Q $1/1
Final Price: 1.99

6 Johnson & Johnson Buddies Soap, 1.19
-6 MF Qs $1/1
Final Price: .19 each

-CVS $3/$15

-23.98 ECBs

OOP: $3.27

ECBs Earned: 30 for Soy Joy, $2 for Garnier Fructis, $2 for Fall Spending, and a $10/$50 coupon.

Thus, there was a profit of $6.75 (ECBs Earned - OOP - ECBs Spent). I probably could have done better if I had broken up the transaction, but I did not have the time and I could tell the cashier would have had difficulties.

CVS & Kroger - Saving 83%

I haven't gone on any major shopping trips in a while due to my Christmas to-do list. So things were looking a little bare in the fridge. I spent the morning catching up on my coupon clipping and finally made it to CVS around 1 pm so the things on my list were a little scarce. I had to rearrange my plan and hope that the things were available on my second CVS trip (two CVS's about 10 minutes apart). I also stopped at Kroger for all the free TP with the coupon from last Sunday's inserts. I didn't take pictures because I am so time challenged at the moment! Between CVS and Kroger, the total value of the purchases was $227.93. My OOP for these trips was $39.46 (saving 83%) with a gain of 21.03 in ECBs. I also stopped at Publix which I will share later.

CVS Deal Scenario for Dec 21 -22

These scenarios are for CVS's two day sale. For some unexplainable reason I keep getting coupons for $10 off of $50 which will really come in handy for this sale. Even without that coupon, you can get some great free items. Just be sure to go early because they disappear fast. I also have quite a few ECBs to spend that I earned during Thanksgiving. I am generally aiming to do the first two transactions and if something is out of stock, I will take products from the third transaction as replacements. Click to enlarge.
