Dr. Mom, I just read your post. I have a suggestion. I NEVER hand my coupons over to the cashier. I always hand them to the cashier section by section. I always give them the $5/50 one first.
Even if the cashier wants the coupons I say "no." I tell them that I would prefer to hand them over a section at a time because I don't want to have any of them missed (which has happened to me several times). There is a guy at the Franklin store that doesn't like this very much but he can't argue because I am the customer.
They should have still taken your $5/50 coupon.
PS - Great tip on the Glad straws!
Hmmm, I feel like a dufus for asking, but what is the FLIP coupon you're referring to with the charcoal? I must be having a blond moment!
I am really quite surprised that they let you use TWO $6.00 off the pork coupons when you are not buying $12 worth of meat. I kind of feel like that is cheating the system. I always worry that stuff like that is eventually going to make couponing harder for the rest of us....
Liz, it is perfectly acceptable to use the coupon that way. The language of the coupon does not indicate that you have to buy $6 of pork. It indicates "$6 off of pork." Language is everything in couponing.
If it had said "WYB $6 of pork" then you would have to purchase $6 of pork.
You shouldn't worry that things are going to get harder for everyone because of the way someone uses a coupon. I always see naysayers out there that say things like that and it just isn't true.
Publix made $300.8 million in profits last quarter (a 1.7% increase from last year). They are very thankful that they have lots of couponers in their stores right now (especially in this economy). My store told me that they have seen a 50% increase in the usage of coupons this year and they are thrilled that people are coming and using theif coupons there.
They couldn't be happier with our coupon usage.
Andria, you can find the FLIPs on Southern Saver's site. I have a direct link under my section for store sites.
Liz, I understand your concern. However, I agree with LA girl concerning its usage. This coupon has been out since the beginning of the year. If the producer did not like its usage they could have withdrawn it or publicly denounced it. The coupon is meant for consumers to try their charcoal, which I do and pay for. If I choose to cook a cheaper cut of meat on their charcoal, I don't think they would care. Publix could also stop allowing overage at any time. I think they do not because they want us in their stores and promoting them online.
LA girl, thanks for your tip. I will certainly do it like that from now on! Publix has never given me a problem with this coupon, and I was really surprised this happened.
Yeah, I always get the widest range of reactions from clerks... totally depends on the individual's personality. But yeah, great job as always!
