Just Paid Tax at Publix!

I have not done much shopping lately. It's not that I haven't wanted to shop, buy I would have had to take my kids with me. My oldest sons (9 and 6) go to a public balanced calendar school. This means that spring break lasts three weeks. The first week you can sign up for additional classes at school which we did. They get to learn new and unusual things like guitar or clay making. The next two weeks they have been coming to the city with me so that they can go to my employer's childcare center. That means that my first stop after work is to pick them up before the 20-30 minute commute home. So if I shopped, it would mean taking them. It is torture. Not only do I spend too much, but I get home frustrated and in a bad mood from saying things like "Come here, NOW!" and "You can not ride under the cart!" and "You have fifteen pounds of candy from Easter, you do not need any more!"

So now that they are back in school, and I have a few minutes between work and pick-up, I was very excited to shop. And, better yet, there are some great deals at Publix this week (prices good through next Tuesday)!

Hi Frugal. :)

I have a quick question for you. I shopped at Royal Oaks store tonight and had a very bad experience. I have shopped at this Franklin store 3 times in the last few months and everytime I go I have a terrible experience (cashier analyzes every coupon, they do not allow me to use more than one Publix coupon per item and they generally give me a hard time and take forever to match up every coupon with every item). Do you know what is going on at this store? It's torture to shop there. I had a terrible experience tonight with a gal named Dawn. Any advice or information would be helpful.

They switched managers a few months ago and since then it has not been the same. I agree that they have become a lot less friendly toward coupon users. Because of this, I have been trying out other Publix stores. The one I used for this trip was the one on Fieldstone in Franklin. I was VERY impressed with their service and knowledge. There was a lady a few carts ahead of me that had many more coupons, some that I have hesitated to use due to Royal Oaks being difficult, and the cashier did not bat an eye and the manager was even very helpful. Also, the few times that I have been there, they have had more of the booklets of coupons available than the Royal Oaks store. I will be shopping there again!

Hey I read your post thanks to Veroica at KeepingOurCash.com I see how you try to avoid shopping with kids. I have a 6 year old and a 8 year old. I never enjoyed shopping with them until I started couponing. Here's how it works, even better if they have the small carts for kids! Each kid gets a coupon for something in that isle and gets to choose the item and put in the cart. Of course I'm supervising the right item is picked, but they are amazing kids while couponing. Mom we want these cookies.....well let me see, nope we don't have a coupon this week, maybe next time. Okay mom. (WHAT did you say, no tantrums, no whinning, no begging??)My 8 year old wants his own coupon book! So amazing and funny at the same time.
