Entertainment Book BOGO Deal

Justine at Jus' Frugal Living has a great post on getting the 2009 Entertainment Book for free when you order the 2010 book. If you are traveling this summer or in the fall, you may want to purchase an Entertainment Book for the location to which you are traveling. Since I suspect once we take the kids to Orlando this year, we may have to take them there next year, thus, this may be a real deal for me. We have family about an hour away from the area which is also a great incentive to visit! So if you repeatedly visit a location, you may want to take advantage of this opportunity.

Does it bother you when bloggers surround paid advertisements with editorial content, and don't mention that the graphic or link is indeed an ad?? I'm not trying to be underhandedly snide or anything here, I'm honestly curious. I recognized the "deal" described as an ad currently being promoted on logical media and elsewhere, and when I looked at her page it looks like her link is also a redirect from an ad service, so it made me wonder.

I have ads all over my blog so I'm not condemning them by any means, but since I'm more familiar now with what's offered on the ad sites I've gotten really exasperated with several of my formerly-favorite-blogs that *constantly* incorporate this paid content into their posts... sometimes my email updates from them will be a string of four ads with the blogger's comments trying to "sell it," and that's it. And I can't decide whether it really is exasperating, or whether I'm being kind of unfair and it's all good... Some days I just feel like there's a difference between presenting something as an ad and passing it off as your own content, other days I'm tempted to get in on it. ;P

What are your thoughts? I'd be really curious to have somebody else's perspective on it...

I'm not big into advertising as you can see on my blog. If someone can actually make money with it on their blog, then more power to them. Since my site is purely my hobby, I don't bother with advertising. I have very limited time, and I don't want what I do to turn into a chore.

I do, however, believe that if you "advertise" and not just promote because the product is meaningful to you personally, it should be a part of your page and not a part of your posts. A reader should be able to distinguish the two easily.

As far as this deal goes, I had not seen it before and had actually planned to purchase a book to save money on our vacation and was actually happy to see that I get two for the price of one. However, when purchasing, it appears to sign you up to receive a book every year so I may have to discontinue it after next year. Sneaky.

I agree with your standpoint entirely, and I'm glad you got two books for the price of one!

You run a great site, and I think it's awesome that your hobby benefits other people so much! ;P
