For the Locals: Great Place to Buy Spices

One of the best places in Nashville to buy fresh vegetables is at the Farmer's Market downtown, just below the Capital. I remember going there as a child before the nicer buildings were built and walking from lean-to to lean-to on gravel and mud to collect your vegetables. It's a lot nicer now though it is always under construction. While the vegetables are great, particularly in the fall, there is more to the Farmer's Market. Within the main building is an international food store, you can't miss it. It is truly an interesting place to visit with food and spices from around the world. It is not the prettiest store, though I think that adds to the charm and authenticity. One of the best things to buy there is spices. They have a huge collection at super cheap prices. If you bought the same quantities at a grocery store, even with a coupon, you would be paying an outrageous amount of money. Here is what I purchased yesterday:

7 oz Premium Whole Cloves, 2.99
3.5 oz Clove Powder, 2.99
7 oz Mustard Seeds, 1.19
14 oz Tumeric Powder, 1.99
.57 lb Large Ginger Root, .56 (very fresh)

Total OOP: $9.66

The phone number is 615 254-1697
Open 365 Days/Year
Location: 900 8th Avenue North
